I think the most important is to teach each child they are their own person. I like to explain things such as instead of saying do not touch the oven, I like to tell them why. Use it as a teaching experience.

When i worked as a Family Advocate I planned a fun project to do with children when I made a home visit. I would carry a bag and all the children knew it was for them. I went to one house and the little girl yelled Miss Lori is here. Miss Lori is here. Then she looked at me and said "What's in the bag!"
