"Lydia is an amazing caretaker and teacher. She is very patient with our special needs child, and follows his lead and engages with him in ways that are fun and educational. She finds ways to incorporate his interests into learning opportunities. Her past occupation as a special ed teacher comes through very clearly. She’s not just watching our child, she is finding the best approaches to help him develop. Our son has come a very long way thanks to her. She is punctual and responsive. We trust her with our son."

"Lydia was my son's preschool teacher for a year at Creative Scholar's Preschool in Chicago.
Lydia proved an invaluable resource during the year my son was in her class at Creative Scholars. An expert at creating a positive and playful classroom, she's always looking for creative ways to keep the children engaged with each other and the world around them."

More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
27 years experience- Nanny for two years, a typically developing preschool child and a preschool child with special needs. Teacher in early childhood centers and community centers, most often with children with at-risk status due to disability, mental health, trauma, family circumstances and poverty, although I've also worked for private centers serving more affluent families. Worked with a wide variety of cultures and languages. Also managed, coached and supported teachers and families
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Always pursuant to their own interests. Infusing learning and character development into whatever they are doing. Dramatic play, scientific discovery, music, and reading are some of my favorite activities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Relationships and trust- including the trust between nanny and child, and between nanny and caregivers
My experience with special needs children...
I have a degree in Special Education. Have worked with autism spectrum, ADD/ADHD, cerebral/birth palsy, oppositional defiance, anxiety and other mental health needs, motor delays, language delays and disorders, second language learning, medical needs such as feeding tubes and lung disorders, gifted children, epilepsy, learning disabilities, difficulties related to trauma. My latest placement is with a child with autism and epilepsy, and I worked closely with his therapists and family to foster language skills, AAC use, independence with toileting and self-help skills, social engagement, flexibility, and emotional regulation
The most important part about being a nanny...
Honestly, every day is something exciting as I watch my child develop. But one of the most rewarding things has been his language development, and his use of his new AAC device. Two separate professionals have now commented on how sophisticated his use of the device is, and that makes me very proud!
