More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
In the past few years, I have had a wide range of childcare opportunities, in many different settings. Most recently, I was an overnight nanny to a newborn baby. I assisted with bedtime preparation, bottle feedings throughout the night, diaper changes, and any other necessary precautions, allowing the mother to sleep during the night. Before that, I was in a daycare with children ages six weeks to six years of age. I had various responsibilities, as I was hired as a float staff with all ages. I spent most of my time with the infants and preschool age though.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am very “old fashioned” in this way. I am not necessarily a fan of screen-time, so I tend to try to get the kids and I out as much as they are willing! I love the idea of children learning through play and exploration, so that is simply what I do. I love outdoor play activities, such as swimming, walks, ice cream trips, or simply what’s accessible to us! I am not afraid of the kids getting dirty as they make the most memories in their creativity. On the rainy days, I love to do crafts such as bracelet making, coloring, or fort-building. Maybe a jump in a puddle or two! I love to make sure each and every day is memorable, even if we are drawing chalk on the sidewalk.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being a nanny is crucial to the child’s life, I am not the parent, but I am the child’s friend, role-model, and family in a whole different way. I spend my day helping the child grow in every way possible, whether it’s social skills, teaching them tasks that you may not even realize need to be taught, caring for them in a way that you’d care for your own. Being a nanny is more than a job, but a huge responsibility in the development of a young child and who they will become. I am the person the parent trusts with their whole life.
The most important part about being a nanny...
As a young adult working with children, I can’t pick just one! As I feel as if I was just their age. I think my all-time favorite moment, with my previous kids, is the moment I realized I wasn’t just their teacher. The bond you grow, the growth in their learning, and the comfort level rising is the best part. The excitement of a child running towards you, because you simply show up to your job, makes it completely worth it. The moment a child comes to you when they are distressed or just NEED to tell you something, makes the child and yourself feel so welcome. Nothing feels better than when a child, who isn’t obligated to even like you, wants you around.
