A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Maddy and I have been taking care of children for most of my life, I’m the oldest of four and have a huge extended family, (four new babies just this year!) and I truly just love caring for people! I graduated from UMKC’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences, where I focused on maternal and child health, infant nutrition, and postpartum care. I’m also CPR and first aid certified, have years of college level coursework in child development and psychology, and I am passionate about providing the best possible research-based care while maintaining a fun and engaging environment. I love animals (especially dogs!), crafts, gardening, and learning new things!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I started babysitting at 12 years old and nannied during the summers starting at 16. I have nannied full time for two families with newborns starting at 4 weeks old, one of which was an only child and the other was the youngest of 4 so I have lots of experience with newborn care and time management! I know baby sign language and usually teach it to the kids in my care, being able to understand each kid individually as soon as possible is so important to me. I spent years tutoring and teaching swim lessons/being a lifeguard on the side as well, those skills always come in handy!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading, crafts, going to the park or library, swimming (I was a lifeguard for a few years and also taught swim lessons)

My experience with special needs children...

I spent a few years working with a program called Propel for students with mental and developmental disabilities and taught life skills and study habits, so I have extensive experience working with students with Autism and Down Syndrome along with other challenges and I really enjoy working with higher needs children and adults.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I recently got some homecoming photos from my very first nanny baby, it is so special to see them all grown up and happy! Keeping in contact with previous kids I worked with is so rewarding, I am still in contact with the woman who took care of me and my siblings growing up and I love getting to be on the other side of that!
