More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I’m a part of an academic group called AVID who do community service while learning about future career paths. I have helped plan and maintain elementary school events such as carnivals and fairs, and I have tutored elementary school kids who have difficulty learning. I have babysat my cousins, little sister, and even friend’s siblings (all ages 3-11) while they are away on business. I am first-aid certified through red cross, and have a food handlers license through the state of Idaho. Both of my parents work in the educational field, so I understand the importance of patience, forgiveness, and kindness when it comes to younger kids.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love playing outside and encouraging imagination-play! I’m never scared to get my hands dirty, and bugs are not a concern to me! Kids who are more athletic aren’t a problem, I play tennis and participate in long distance running, so I can keep up with the little ones! For days where the weather isn’t so pleasant, drawing and crafts are good ways to spend the time! I enjoy reading to kids or watching their favorite shows with them, but if they can’t sit still then dancing to their songs is fun to get the wiggles out! I enjoy cooking and baking, so when they get hungry making lunch or a snack is an easy task! I never have kids work in the kitchen due to sharp objects and hot surfaces, but unless it’s parent-approved I have no problem with extra help!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Patience! Little kids can have trouble working their thoughts and feelings out, so when they are struggling, it’s most important to be understanding while they try to get the words out. Forgiveness is also important, they are still learning right from wrong (depending on age) and so when they mess up it can be frustrating. Whenever they make a mistake or bad decision, it’s best to be patient with them and forgive them, but also to gently teach them why what they did wasn’t ok. Kids are still learning, so taking that extra step of kindness is beneficial.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One day I was watching my neighbors kid, a little girl 5 years old. We were outside playing in the yard when she unfortunately got stung by a bee. I took her to the bathroom where I removed the stinger, put disinfectant on it, and covered it with a bandaid. Since she was still upset, we got ice cream from the freezer and watched her favorite show Bluey. After her Dad got home, she ran up to him and told him “I got stung by a bee but big sister made me better!”. I’m not related to them at all, but having a younger kid look up to me and enjoy the time we spend together meant so much to me!
