A little bit about me

Hi, my name is Maggie! I have 5 years of paid babysitting experience and am currently working as a substitute teacher in Ingham and Livingston counties. I am unavailable to babysit during the week because of my job, but I'm available for weekends and I am starting to look for a babysitting job for this summer.

I have five years of paid babysitting experience with infants, toddlers, and young children. I am studying to become a high school English teacher and I care deeply about childhood literacy and making learning fun!

Personally, I love reading, doing crafts and cooking. I am an animal lover but unfortunately have allergies, so if your dog or cat sheds a lot I may not be the best fit. I also have a condition that makes running difficult, so if your child is particularly athletic I may not be the best fit either.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have five years of caregiving experience, ranging from caring for an infant to two elementary age children. I was also a volunteer at my local library, where I assisted with literacy programs and summer activities. I am studying to teach high school English, and I am currently a substitute teacher, so I have plenty of experience with caring for kids.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love crafting, so I enjoy doing creative activities with children! I have a lot of materials (paint, yarn, fine art pencils, etc.) that I would love to share because they rarely get used. It would be so much fun to try new techniques for crafts or to try to teach your child a craft that they can enjoy! I also love board games and puzzles, and hardly ever have the chance to play them! I enjoy cooking and I think it could be fun to try some new recipes out if that interests your child! As mentioned, I am studying to teach, so I love combining learning new things with fun activities, like doing science experiments or going to the zoo to learn about animals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Having patience and empathy. I think it's important to remember how unsteady things felt when you were a child and to try to understand why kids act out during stressful times and mood swings. It doesn't always make their actions okay, but it provides some context.

My experience with special needs children...

As mentioned, I am a substitute teacher and have worked with kids with special needs in the past. Accessibility is one of my largest concerns as a future educator, so I am quite informed about the subject. I believe that I am a patient and understanding person and I am confident that I would be able to care for a child with special needs or that I would be able to communicate if those skills seemed out of my reach.
