More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
A year and a half ago I moved to Ontario, Canada and became a nanny for two girls. We became the best of friends and I still speak to them often! I meal prepped, picked the eldest one up from school if work ran late for the parents, planned activities for the toddler and I to do every day, attended music class and little gym with the youngest and cleaned while the youngest was down for her nap. I spent so much time with this wonderful family and I was so lucky to have found them!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I think being outside is one of my favorite things to do. There's so much in nature! Whether it's going for a walk in the stroller, going to the park, going for a hike, or practicing any sports they may love. I also love to craft. I always found new ideas for crafting that I was even amazed by! I think a children's museum or even getting ice cream (if mom or dad say yes) can be such a great way to bond. I used to take the girls I previously nannied for in Canada to the Canadian version of Barnes and Nobles and we all got Starbucks (they got coconut water and lemonade) but it was their favorite thing to do with me. We also loved rolling down hills at the park! Yes I did in fact roll in the grass too.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When you're a kid, the world is such a big place full of wonder and magic. But they always want to grow up so fast! As adults I think we all want a part of that wonder back. The most important part about being a nanny to me is impact. Helping them grow in every way they must, but also allowing them to hang onto every bit of that magic for as long as possible. It's important that they have people in their lives that they can feel safe with and can confide in about their big dreams and grand imagination. Life is one big adventure and theirs is just beginning. Along with their family, having the right person with them at the starting line is so important!
My experience with special needs children...
I was in club unify all of high-school, interned in the special needs classrooms for two full semesters each day for my fourth period and have learned a lot about coping/ regulation skills.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moment was actually the saddest moment for me. When I had to move back home to the U.S.. I spent my last full day with the girls I nannied for and I realized only when saying goodbye how much I impacted their day to day. I look back so fondly on all of the little things like our art days, the eldest one's dance numbers, music class and little gym with the youngest, when they both were sick and we watched Disney movies all day! It all comes back to you when you have to say goodbye. I fortunately get plenty of FaceTimes and texts from the girls when they steal their mom's phone! All of the moments big or small matter so much! And I adore every moment I've had with the kids I've nannied for.
