Hi there! My name is Maura (I mostly go by MJ though.)

A little bit about me, is that I love to write and read, surfing is a large part of my personality, I enjoy hiking and laying in the sun and I really love laughing. (random inclusion but very true)
I've been doing official child care for about 3 years now off and on. But taking care of kiddos has been a big part of my life since my early teens. One of my favorite things is getting to know little ones and their ever-expanding minds. Making sure that they are taken care of, as well as treated with respect and understanding is a non-negotiable for me.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a nanny for 4 month old, 6 year old and 11 year old, starting in January of this year-May of this year. Due to moving I couldn't continue, but it was one of the most fulfilling jobs I have ever had. Lot's of picnics and bike rides :)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to go on adventures or chill at home! Walks are always the best and I also can always go for an ice cream cone. Learning is very important to me as well, I am always happy to teach anything and everything I know, and dive into whatever topics your child is interested in. Picnics are never not fun and personally, the park is about as fun as it gets.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me the most important part of being a nanny is the understanding that these kids that you are working with are much smarter than society cracks them up to be. And it is my job as a caretaker to be a mentor and friend to them, to hold up the principles that their parents present to me and help contribute to raise them to be solid, kind, patient and well rounded humans. And most importantly be there for them, for the hard-times, the good times, and everything in between. I believe being a nanny is about consistency and trust and continuing to show up for them despite all.

My experience with special needs children...

I volunteered at a coffee shop for a few years with Special needs employees. I have never nannyed a special needs child but I do have experience with understanding and getting to know people with special needs. I find them to be some of the kindest and most facinating humans and deserving of the utmost respect. (also some of the funniest people I have ever met). Ergo, I am open to this oppportunity but do not have completely relevant experience taking care of someone with speical needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think one of my favorite nanny moments was playing barbies with the two sisters I nannyed for awhile. We were having a picnic on a really beautiful spring day at the park and I don't remember what was said but one of the girls made a joke and milk shot out of my nose I was laughing so hard. This then led to all of us rolling around holding our bellies and giggling for probably 5 minutes straight. I'll never forget it.
