I have been a Daycare teacher for ages infant-4 years old for two years. This encompasses creating goals and lesson plans for each child as well as doing basic needs care such as potty training, meal prep, engaging activities, etc.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
My favorite activities to do outside include a sprinkler, hiking, nature scavenger hunts, sidewalk chalk fun, and interesting science crafts such as coke and mentos, wizard brews, etc. I love finger painting and creating slime! Sensory activities are incredibly important for younger children so I love incorporating those into the day. Building a fort and watching a movie with some popcorn is a fun pre-night time activity!
The most important part about being a nanny...
incorporating engaging activities that provoke some sort of learning! You are constantly learning as a child and it’s important to make connections with everything you’re doing. This could be just a quick sentence such as “wow! It’s raining. Let’s go play in the puddles! Do you know where rain comes from?” And this sparks children’s curiosity in asking questions and finding answers, but still enjoying the moment of splashing in puddles in the rain!
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment is when a child I used to watch was looking under rocks and exploring and he found a huge slug! He thought it was hilarious and watched it move slowly. We talked about how slugs are important to the ecosystem we were in and he enjoyed placing the slug back in the cool, damp grass after watching him for a while!
