A little bit about me

I recently traded the dark and rainy Seattle area for the Arizona sun and warmth. I'm looking forward to getting outside and exploring a new environment, seeing some baseball spring training, taking the dog for a walk, and checking out the farmers markets.
I've had an adventurous life between working with non-profits on farms, student teaching in Hawaii, going to Haiti twice to help with a church mission, working on a cruise ship, and organizing activities at a couple day camps in Washington state.

I most recently provided live-in support for three adult women with special needs, managing all aspects of daily living and personalized care.
Private Childcare (Nanny): Six years of dedicated service to four families, providing comprehensive care for children ranging from newborns to age 7.
I served as a Lead Teacher safety for children ages 1 to 7 for Whidbey Naval Base.
As a Teacher Naturalist, I facilitated environmental education at two day camps for adolescents (ages 11–13) in Washington State.
I interned with Heifer International where I designed curriculum and managed field programming for a diverse demographic spanning ages 3 to 90 (yes 90).
With Holland America, I was a Youth Staff member responsible for activity programming for passengers ages 5 to 18.
I assisted in classroom management for ages 3 to 5 in Hawaii.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I believe the best way to engage children is to follow their curiosity. I adapt my approach to every unique personality but here are a few of my tried-and-true "Go-To" activities:
You can never go wrong with story-time. I believe there is a book for every child and every mood.
Fresh air is important when possible. Whether it’s nature walks, bug inspections, or starting a rock collection. I love when kids are curious about the world around them.
I love to have music as part of the day. We start with tummy time and quiet melodies when they are very young, transition to musical instruments, and eventually dance parties and karaoke sessions.
From arts and crafts and bubbles to the sensory science of homemade slime, I love keeping little hands busy and not afraid of getting a little dirty.
I enjoy getting kids involved in the kitchen with baking and cooking, or staying active through swimming, bike riding, and playground adventures.

As a caregiver, I live by the rule that 'in every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.' -Mary Poppins.
With a diverse background ranging from lead teaching to long term specialized care, I combine a foundation of education with a playful spirit. I prioritize getting outdoors, creativity through arts and slime, and, most importantly, adding a little of my 'magic' to meet the needs and interests of the family.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with special needs children at some point in nearly all jobs including the Navy daycare, both day camps, Montessori, Concordia private school, and as a nanny of a 4 year old.
I received a certificate for inclusion from Clover park technical college.
I have also spent the last year as the primary caretaker of 3 special needs women.

The most important part about being a nanny...

During Covid, the special needs 4 year old I was taking care of at the time was going to school remotely. As many special needs people do, she had a strict routine that she had to follow. She was running behind for role call but hadn't brushed her teeth yet. She quickly grabbed her tooth paste and brush, ran over to her "office" and proceeded to wait on her zoom call while brushing her teeth. When her teacher called her name, she answered with a mouth full of foam.
