A little bit about me

I am a Navy Brat. 30 years old, currently living with my mom, who needs help around the house, until my father retires in the next year or two. I am not married. I do not have kids of my own, but only because I am waiting for the right time. In college I sturdied rehabilitation for mental and physical disability, with a minor in psychology. So needless to say, I just love people, in general. Children, young adults, or senior citizens who need care are all equally important in my eyes. I do not have any nieces or nephews of my own, so I’ve always loved to babysit as a way to foster and nurture the amazing relationships you can build with little ones, watching them grow and helping them learn new things every day.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

A room mate of mine had two children who I basically co-parented. One from the time she was born until she was about 3 years old, the other from the age of 5 until he was 8. My room mate worked nights so I would look after them in the evenings. This included making them dinner, getting them cleaned up and into bed, and we got up together every morning and had breakfast before their dad got home from work. We would do all kinds of fun activities, to pass the time. Build blanket forts, make art for dad, make music, play with toys, watch movies. You name it, we did it. I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything. I consider those kids my family.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love keeping kids active. Going for walks, dancing, or playing in the yard as much as possible. Maybe some exercises if appropriate. Learning the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, animals, etc. Coloring, arts and crafts, movie time.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Having a good connection with the family, as a whole. It’s so important to really enjoy your time with the kids. Honesty is so important. Anyone can “babysit” a couple of kids to make a buck. I want more than that, I want to have a working partnership with the parents and see beyond the mighty dollar. If I didn’t feel like I was the right fit for a family, I would be honest about it. I want to be an extension of the family and really be part of the team. I love building real relationships with the kids and the families, and fostering a safe and healthy environment for the kids to grow and learn from me.

My experience with special needs children...

I cared for a young boy who had autism. It could be challenging at times, but I really enjoyed it. His mood could change, literally, from moment to moment, he would have physical outbursts, but in a relatively short amount of time I was able read him like a book and respond appropriately.
