A little bit about me

Beginning my experience with children, started when I was 13 years old. It started with me watching my younger siblings everyday for my parents, it involved me bathing, and feeding them. Over the years I began to watch friends and families children. I have cleaned around the house if it was needed, washed clothing, cooked, played sports, taught children school necessities, and etc... My experience has also varied over the years with many different children. At the age of 15 I began working with special needs students in a club at school, helping them with daily needs, and opening up. I am currently 24 years old, I am as goofy as it gets, I love having fun and making others smile/ laugh. I believe in children being children, living life to the fullest and experiencing everything as an adventure. Also, I a very brilliant school girl. Graduating with a solid 4.2 GPA all honors/ AP classes. I graduated ranked number 52 out of a class of 532 students. Tutoring falls well within my skills.

"Melissa has always went above and beyond expectations. She is very energentic with children and enjoys having fun with them. On days that I worked late, she would feed them, bathe them, and had them in bed at a decent hour. She also made sure the house was clean by the time I got home which was not something I asked of her. She loved playing games with them, took them swimming and to the park. Melissa is a very genuine person and babysitting is a natural for her. She cares for the children as if they were her own. I would highly recommend her!"

Relevant experience I have, are working with special needs students when I was in high school, I have also volunteered with my church keeping children during adult worship time, being a new stay at home mom I have opened my house as a safe space. Keeping different children throughout the day for parents that may need to work, run errands, dates nights, or simply just need a refresher day !

Some activities I enjoy doing with children, are playing sports, making crafts/ drawing, cooking/ baking, exploring nature, board games, movie nights, etc…

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny, is caring for the children and also their parents, while still being able to get what needs to be done, done. This is important, because it allows you to become more comfortable with one another all while being able to be yourselves and show them your responsibilities and children time can both be leveled. Caring for the children is the most important part, because you are there to take care of them, and give the parents that relief off their back that they can go out and come home to a space that felt like they never left. Growing not only your bond with your child but also the parents. The children are your main priority but never neglect the needs of them homes/ parents. Everyone needs a little help or even alot is okay !! Nanny’s are to keep everyone happy.

My experience with special needs children...

My experience with special needs students, started 4 years ago by volunteering in a program called best buddies in highschool. Within this program, we get assigned a buddy and we become close friends with them. We help them open up, have fun, assist with daily activities, teach them school work, and help them do things they may be interested in doing; but never got the opportunity too. I have taken my buddy out to do fun events, friend nights, pinics, dances and simply grabbed food. It has taught me that they are just like us, they want to be themselves and have fun. I now continue with the skills I learned in highschool, plus what I have learned throughout my time as a sitter. I have worked with many different children who have down syndrome, autism and Adhd. Learning their needs, the way they do things, and how to adjust to their way of thinking. Keeping them calm and understanding how to control a situation when they don’t properly understand how to express their feelings.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moments, is watching when your child begins to open up. When becoming a new nanny for children, the children may not feel like they want to trust you yet/ are skeptical. But once you begin to have fun and show them who you are and they start opening up to you. Growing that trusting bond, and talking to like your not a stranger anymore. Watching children smile and show you their true colors inside, can make anyone’s day better. When at first you typically see this little caterpillar in a cocoon, and they open up to that free butterfly.
