Hi! My name is Mikaela, and I am looking for a family with young kiddos to work with this summer before I return to Pittsburgh to begin my Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Program.
I am a fun-loving, silly babysitter with the energy to keep up with your kiddos. I enjoy coming up with creative non-screen activities, including making up games with toys, playing outside, and doing arts and crafts. I love helping kids explore their interests and encouraging their independence as they learn new things. I also grew up with dogs/cats, and I am happy to take care of furry family members as well!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I grew up babysitting and have nannied toddlers through preteens. I have worked as a YMCA camp counselor, teaching nature and science lessons and leading groups of elementary school kids through a variety of recreational activities. My undergraduate education included several courses in human development and special education. I have field experience working in special education classrooms both as a teaching assistant and, most recently, as a personal care aide in an extended school year program. I know every kid is unique, and I am excited to get to know your kiddos and learn best support their individual needs.

I have assisted in a fourth-grade special education class and worked as a personal care assistant for a nonverbal student in my intermediate unit's extended school year program. I know every individual is unique, and I am happy to work with anyone and learn how best to meet their needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The first time a minimally verbal kiddo I was working with shared his excitement with me by running up to me and hugging my leg. That instance of trust, and of this kid looking to me as someone he could share his joy with, made my day.
