A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Mikayla, and I have over 10 years of experience working with children of all ages and abilities. I hold an Associate Degree in Child Development, am CPR and First Aid certified, and I’m currently in my final year of earning my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked as an infant and toddler teacher, supported preschool classrooms for over 5 years, and provided care for elementary-aged students with disabilities. I also have specialized experience working with children with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum.

I’m passionate about creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and feel supported. I love planning fun, developmentally appropriate activities and building strong, trusting relationships with both children and families.

I look forward to connecting with a wonderful family and becoming a positive, dependable part of your child's life!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Working as an infant and toddler teacher, where I provided daily care, created age-appropriate lesson plans, and supported early developmental milestones.

Over 5 years of experience in preschool settings, helping children build social skills, independence, and early learning through structured play and activities.

Supporting children with special needs, especially children on the autism spectrum, by providing one-on-one attention, following behavior plans, and creating a calm, supportive environment.

Assisting elementary-aged students with disabilities, helping with academic tasks, communication, and emotional regulation.
Babysitting and nannying for families over the years, offering dependable care for children of various ages, including meal prep, playtime, and bedtime routines.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love planning fun, hands-on activities that support learning and creativity. Some of my favorites include arts and crafts, sensory play, reading stories together, and outdoor adventures like nature walks or playing at the park. I also enjoy doing age-appropriate educational activities—like practicing letters, numbers, or simple science experiments for curious minds.

For younger children, I focus on activities that support motor skills and early development, and for older kids, I enjoy helping with homework, playing board games, or exploring their interests. Whether it’s a silly dance party, building a fort, or calming down with a quiet story, I aim to make every moment meaningful and fun!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is building a strong, trusting bond with both the child and their family. I believe kids thrive when they feel safe, supported, and truly cared for. Whether I’m helping a baby take their first steps, guiding preschool play, or supporting a child with special needs, I bring patience, compassion, and joy to every moment. It’s more than just a job—it’s about being a consistent, positive presence in a child’s life.

My experience with special needs children...

I have several years of experience working with children with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum and children with developmental and learning disabilities. In both classroom and one-on-one settings, I’ve supported children with a wide range of needs—helping them build communication skills, manage emotions, follow routines, and engage in activities that support their growth and confidence.

My approach is always patient, respectful, and individualized. I take the time to understand each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and communication style, and I work closely with families and educators to create consistent, supportive environments. I also have experience using visual supports, sensory tools, and behavior strategies to help children feel safe and successful.

Working with special needs children has taught me the importance of flexibility, empathy, and celebrating every small victory—and it’s truly one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite nanny moments was when a toddler I cared for took their very first steps while I was right there cheering them on. The joy and pride on their little face—and knowing I was part of such a special milestone—was unforgettable. Moments like that remind me why I love being a nanny: it’s about being there for the big and small milestones, the everyday laughs, and the trust that families place in me to care for their children like my own.

My most significant strength in working with youth is that I am able to empathize and be patient. This is evident in times assisting children while they are dysregulated or experiencing doubt, fear, or sadness, and then finding ways to help them regulate their emotions by helping them to feel safe and understood. I utilize various techniques depending on the situation and have about an 8/10 success rate for children experiencing heighten fears or sensitivities to new or uncertain situations. Another important focus I value is to create an environment that promotes acceptance and kindness towards the self and others by promoting cooperation and support as well as curiosity and a balance between structure and a child based approach to learning.
