More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Most of my experience with children has been through nanny work but I've also worked as an assistant teacher at a daycare. I was a volunteer camp counselor in high school. I taught cooking classes for children in Guatemala. I volunteered at the YMCA many times in the early days of my career. I volunteered with an organization in Seattle called Seattle Tilth(now Tilth Alliance) that teaches children about farming and gardening.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Indoor: I am a musician so what of my favorite things to do with children is engage in some kind of music play using shakers, maracas, or even approved pots and pans and make music. I have a little keyboard I like to bring and I've even had little jam sessions with kids and it's one of the sweetest experiences. I also enjoy any kind of art project like finger painting, with older kids collages can be fun or building a bug hotel. I once had a kid make a small house for a snail we found (the snail was not harmed).
Outdoor:
Playing in the water table/sandbox, going to a playground, I've taken kids on kid-friendly hikes, drawing with chalk, making a car wash for toy cars, kicking a ball around in the yard, taking a walk in the neighborhood and more.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Being reliable, available and responsible. Parents depend on their nanny to show up and take excellent care of their child and so it's crucial for nannies to show up ready to jump into action. It's the nanny's job to set a good example and prove to parents that they can trust you not only with their child and animals but in their home. I treat a family's home as a sacred space. The bond between nannies and parents is as important as the bond between nannies and children. I like to create what I call a professional friendship with parents which also includes respectable boundaries and room for improvement. Being a nanny is a very intimate job so it's important to come to work with your full heart, an open mind and excitement for the day ahead. Children love fun nannies and so making an effort to be fun and silly with kids allows for the bonds to get stronger overtime! Be approachable!
