More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Eventually I took care of other children, often preparing meals, assisting with homework, taking care of pets, doing light housework, etc. As a result, the parents would often request I house sat for them when the families would vacation.
I grew up in a neighborhood full of children. There was one family in our community working on a four-year assignment from Japan. The father was limited with his English; his wife and daughter spoke even less. I took care of their little girl during those four years and became quite close. We are still in touch 30 years later.
As an adult, I also cared extensively for my niece and nephew. They stayed over night at least every other weekend, some week nights, and trips where I flew with them to another state just the three of us.
After I built my first house when I lived in KY, the neighborhood children would come and go from my house because they enjoyed spending time there, often having sleep overs. I'm still in touch with some of them.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy playing games, teaching/tutoring, going for walks or hikes, visiting parks and playgrounds, taking in an occasional movie at the theater. I love music and enjoy listening to a variety while cooking and cleaning.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is the child/children's protection-- physical and emotional. A child (and their parents) should always know irrevocably that they are safe and cared for.
My experience with special needs children...
I am not specifically educated or trained caring for special needs children. However, I have experience.
There was a precious boy that had a car accident that left him both physically and mentally disabled. When he and his mother would visit, we were drawn to one another. He was wheelchair bound and held limited communication. We often spent hours playing and laughing together.
Also as a teenager I babysat an infant boy that had a very rare disease (Mitochondrial Disease) that disabled his growth physically and intellectually. He never learned to walk or talk. He was so very precious. I will never forget him. We, too, were extremely close, as well has his parents and myself. When I was an adult, his mother and I would meet periodically for dinner. He lived to be 13 years old. His parents told me that other than themselves and his grandparents, I was the only person to ever take care of him.

The most important part about being a nanny...
There are so many!!! Some of my favorites are singing and dancing with the children while that sat at the kitchen table as I cooked. I also loved sitting on the sofa watching movies and eating popcorn. My favorite was spending time with Cameron (the child with Mitochondrial Disease). I loved holding and soothing him with my voice. There were a few splendid moments where our eyes locked and we would connect-- I knew he heard me and was at peace.
