A little bit about me

I have been working with children in many different jobs since I was 13 and had my first babysitting jobs. That's about 30 years of experience off and on. I have worked several daycare jobs along with teaching jobs (swimming, public speaking, formal debate, and general education). I'm a firm believer in safety while giving children space to learn in there own way. (gentle guidance is what I call it). I have one daughter that is an adult now and an adoptive child that's 14 (he's my nephew by marriage). I'm currently employed at an afterschool daycare during the school year but looking for something to keep me busy during the summer. (and potentially longer if it works out).

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have 6 ece units from a pre college occupation course I took. I have taught preschool, Swimming, public speaking and debate, among general life skills. I have raised my daughter. I have also worked many babysitting jobs. childcare is basically my life along with being my passion. Children are our future and I'm happy to be a part in helping to shape what that future looks like.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love letting the kids color and drawl and be creative! I also enjoy helping them with homework or just reading a book to or with them. Outside games are also fun as long as its nice out. sometimes I bring some crafts for the kids to do like beading or bracelet making with yarn. backyard picnics are fun too!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Knowing that we are an influence on the children that we are responsible for is important to me. They spend hours with us in some cases more than half their day and into the night. So the example that we show them during that time can weight heavily on who they turn out to be as an adult.

My experience with special needs children...

I have had a few children in my care that were on the special needs spectrum. They require a bit more attention and patience and it is well within my abilities to provide that. I'm very adaptable in providing the care that each child needs regardless.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I once nannied for a family that had three boys and the oldest was on the spectrum. He was only 4 years younger than me. He loved math and would ask me to write him the hardest math problems I could think of and he would solve every one of them even if it took him a while. His two younger brothers were also very smart and they made me realize that some kids actually love to do school related work. That was my favorite memory because It made me realize that working with all types of children was my passion.
