More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
While living in Virgina my booster club often volunteered for the Boys and Girls club(s) in heavily populated areas. We offered our expertise knowledge in finger painting and clay crafts, homework help, kickball and swim lessons. The children in the program really gave us a run for our energy!
While working in CT after graduating high school, I was employed by a privately owned group home organization, who often outsourced my duties to adolescent and adult day programs. The main goal of these programs is to comfortably acclimate our individuals into the community so they may "graduate" into more independent members of their own community. This role encourages a lot of patience and personal education of the client's behavioral needs.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Arts and Crafts!!
Why can birds have polka dots or Dandelions have eyebrows? We get to peek into kids' creativity when the challenge us to color outside of the lines.
Outside Play-
We forget that the newest generation hasn't had the experience of being able to fully commit to playing outside without barriers like us 80's- 90's kids did. While they may not be able to drink from the hose or rumpus until the streetlights come on, children can still engage in safe play away from devices.
Cooking/ Home economics- I attended a trade school for high school and chose Culinary Arts. Before that I was the PICKIEST of eaters. Making foods from scratch like ice cream, butter, bread and pizza always seems to be a crowd pleaser.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Communication with the parents/ guardians. We all have different approaches to parenting, to keep children on the right track with their routines, we have to have a clear and concise agreement in place on all action involving the host families' children.
My experience with special needs children...
I am a proud momma of a child with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)! Fortunately for my child, they have the support and advocacy from not only myself, but from my family of licensed therapist, school teachers and community personnel. Unfortunately for many other parents, regardless of what their income or status is, they may run in to obstacles of diagnosis and treatment or advocacy. I have experienced firsthand how difficult times may be when it comes to dealing with not only their unique needs and behaviors but the public and communities' reaction to our young ones as well.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Having to explain to the parents why the whole kitchen was covered in soapy bubbles. The kiddos love to help clean, so naturally all dishes they want to wash should get dish soap...Even the one in the dishwasher. A new nanny mistake on my part and thankfully the parents were so understanding.
