My relevant experience occurred during bedtime. Alex was used to his parents reading him a bedtime story, and at first he was reluctant to fall asleep without them. It was a challenge to reassure him and help him feel safe. I learned the importance of establishing a routine and offering emotional security to children in times of separation from their parents.

My experience with special needs children...
A few years ago, I volunteered at a day care center for children with special needs. One of the children I had the opportunity to care for and spend time with was named Lucas. Lucas had autism and had difficulty communicating and relating to others.
During my time with Lucas, I learned to adapt my communication and caregiving methods to meet his specific needs. It was a challenging experience, but also very valuable.

I was babysitting two children, Sarah and Jake, ages 8 and 10 respectively, while their parents were out of town for a weekend. One afternoon, while we were planning activities for the evening, I asked them what they would like to do. The two children expressed their desire to have a movie night at home.
We decided to turn the living room into a home theater. Together, we moved furniture, inflated air mattresses, and arranged pillows and blankets on the floor to create a comfortable space. Then we went to the kitchen and made some homemade popcorn and soda, which they loved.
Sarah and Jake selected their favorite movies, and all night long, we immersed ourselves in a movie marathon. It was a lovely moment to see the excitement on their faces as they snuggled under the blankets and we shared laughter and comments about the movies. We even let the kids pick an additional movie of their choice, which gave them a sense of control and fun.
