Hi! My name is Olivia Jones, and I’m currently a junior at Texas A&M University majoring in Pre-K through 6th Grade Generalist Education. I’m passionate about working with children and would love the opportunity to gain even more hands-on experience.

I have had the chance to shadow classes at elementary schools, which has given me valuable insight into classroom environments and teaching strategies. I’ve also worked at the Boys & Girls Club in Caldwell, where I supported kids through fun activities and learning opportunities. In addition, I have experience babysitting for family and family friends, giving me the chance to work with children of various ages and personalities.

I really enjoy spending time with children and finding fun ways to keep them engaged, both indoors and outdoors. When we’re inside, I like doing creative activities such as arts and crafts, painting, drawing, and simple DIY projects. I also enjoy playing board games, helping with puzzles, and reading books together because it’s a great way to encourage learning and imagination.

Outdoors, I love being active and playing different games and sports. Whether it’s soccer, basketball, tag, hide-and-seek, or just running around at the park, I enjoy seeing the kids have fun while staying active. I also like organizing group activities outside, like scavenger hunts or small team challenges, because they help build teamwork and social skills.

Overall, I enjoy creating a good balance between fun, creativity, and learning, making sure the kids can explore, play, and express themselves in different ways.

The most important part about being a babysitter or nanny is ensuring the children’s safety and well-being while also creating a positive and supportive environment. Parents trust you to take care of their kids, so being responsible, attentive, and reliable is essential.

Beyond safety, it’s also important to build a good connection with the children. This means being patient, understanding, and engaging with them in a way that makes them feel comfortable and cared for. Whether you’re helping with homework, playing games, preparing meals, or handling bedtime routines, showing kindness and consistency helps create a sense of trust.

Good communication is also key — both with the kids and the parents. Keeping parents informed, following their instructions, and respecting their routines shows that you’re dependable and professional.

In short, the role is about more than just watching children; it’s about keeping them safe, and making them feel supported.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of the best parts about shadowing teachers in elementary schools was getting to see how students learn and interact in the classroom. I enjoyed being able to observe different teaching styles and seeing how educators make lessons fun and engaging. A memorable moment for me was helping a small group of students with their reading — watching their confidence grow as they understood the material was really rewarding. It gave me a better understanding of what it takes to create a positive learning environment.

Working as a YDP at the Boys & Girls Club in Caldwell was also a great experience. I loved building relationships with the kids and being someone they could come to for help or just to have fun. Some of my favorite moments were leading activities, playing games, and seeing the kids’ excitement when they learned something new or accomplished a goal. Being able to make a difference, even in small ways, was really fulfilling and confirmed my passion for working with children.
