A little bit about me

I am an unconventional nanny, having come back to this career decades after I first worked as a nanny. Growing up the first few years on a North Dakota farm gave me a natural work ethic, resilience, and a down-to-earth look at life. Following my bachelor’s degree, I lived in Connecticut working full-time as a live-in nanny, caring for three special-needs children on a busy six-day schedule. This experience taught me how to stay completely steady, calm, and organized under pressure. Later, I built a demanding corporate career where I excelled at communications, strategic planning, organization, and project management, even working for a Fortune 500 company. Choosing to return to private household care allowed me to bring those professional skills into a field I am truly passionate about, helping families thrive.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Yoga instructor, reflexologist, elder care, (former CNA and former OSHA 10 instructor).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Our daily routine is built on a foundation of diverse, enrichment-focused activities that span across two dozen local parks, community centers, and iconic city landmarks. We maintain a high-energy schedule that includes consistent swimming, frequent visits to wildlife habitats and arboretums, and cultural outings to major tourist sites, including observation towers, bustling public markets, and prominent waterfront attractions. Creative play is a daily constant, featuring everything from home-based art projects and weekly baking sessions to casual outings for treats, ensuring that every week is filled with active, hands-on engagement. I work to provide structured commitment to physical development. Weekly, we have several sessions of specialized movement classes, such as dance and gymnastics, supplemented seasonally by team sports and music instruction. We do regular outdoor exercise, routine visits to regional museums, and trips to public libraries.

The most important part about being a nanny...

At the heart of my work is a simple, guiding promise: to ensure every child feels Happy, Healthy, Safe, and Loved. I believe that a home should be a sanctuary. In this place, children are free to explore their creativity, and parents can breathe easy knowing the "heart" and the complex "details" of the household are in gentle, capable hands.

My experience with special needs children...

With my current family, the eldest has ADHD and I've learned to navigate emotional and physical outbursts. In my reflexology business I worked with two autisitic preteens, one who is nonverbal. Also as a nanny in my 20s, all three children had diabilities. The eldest had CP and epilepsy and was nonverbal. The middle child had a physical deformity and the youngest was autistic. In addition, I raised a child with what was formerly termed Asberger's Syndrome.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Each day I send my current employers photos and funny sayings while the three-year-old and I are out wandering. This week (June 15) she and I were at a waterfront park in Seattle and suddenly she yells, "Pam, we need to ride on that boat!" (That boat was a massive Korean cargo ship passing through Puget Sound). That day she also told me she was going to ask her mom if I could fly her to New York City to see her grandma.
