More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My first relevant experience with children occurred over a three year period when I cared for 3 children ages three, two and six weeks every day for approximately 5 hours. Professionally
I have worked in early childhood education both in general education and special education. I also evaluated children in their homes and educated parents for the Parents as Teachers program. My work with the K through 12 population included general education, special education one on one and the inclusion settings.
As a music teacher my specialization was in vocal music K through 12. I directed many children’s choirs utilizing the Carl Orff music education Method of music education. Both general and Special education children were present in my classes by my request.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy reading to children as newborns and all kids until they choose to only read independently.
I combine rhythmic body movement with common chants ie. Counting, ABCs, Days of the week to increase rote memory and speech. I also like cooking with kids, practicing more common Montessori activities of daily living to increase independence and inclusion. Rhyme is an excellent precursor to reading. I sing a lot to kids. Sometimes familiar songs and sometimes new. All craft projects are great for beginning learners be it hand over hand or independent.
I am a STRONG believer in laughing and having fun with kids as often as possible for many reasons. Creative play is very important for language development.

The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is loving them we’re they are at the moment things go well and the moment things go bad. It’s knowing when it’s the right time to listen, to teach, or to talk. Kids are really just shorter adults. They go through the same gamut of emotions that we do and just like us sometimes they just need peace and quiet and rest. They need routine in their lives but a little improvisation too. They need time to process new experiences so they shouldn’t be pushed into doing things they don’t like. Children are even intuitive. They can sense when something is wrong or someone is bad. Even so we hold them and protect them.
My experience with special needs children...
As a speech Pathologist I have worked with mildly impaired children and parents to severely impaired children , parents and families. The areas I have addressed are articulation, increasing functional expression, language, voice, hearing impairment and swallowing.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The sweetest time is when mom or dad get home. They squeal and laugh and we cheer.
The funniest times are when they approximate the way a word is said and it comes out oh tay instead of okay or when they bite their toes, bounce up and down to music, imitate adults, look out the window and point at school buses or get so excited when they see a dog or cat.
When they see grandparents they get really excited too or even the mailman.
When they talk about school they’re really cute or bring home valentines or put on funny clothes they are really cute. When they dress themselves and things don’t really match but that’s okay because they did a good job dressing. When they play peek a boo or hide from their siblings or taste new food they are really funny.
I think I said this before but, I really really love kids of all shapes and sizes.
