"Peter is a kind, knowledge and caring nanny. He has become part of our family in the time that he's been with us. He is loving, nurturing, patient and you can tell is passionate about children. His communication skills are too knotch. He does whatever is needed to help my medically complex son and us as a family. He's gone to hospitals and doctor visits with us. He takes my son to his weekly therapies. When my son was hospitalized, he was right there. He's amazing at adapting to my son's ever changing needs. He has the biggest heart. I have been babysitting since 2008 and started assistant teaching the younger sabbath school classes at my church around the same time. My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with hard of hearing children while teaching, been a babysitter/“big sibling” to a little boy with a mood disorder, and my current position is nanny to a little boy with many special needs. His care includes glucose checks, therapy three times a week (Physical, Occupational, and Feeding), staying with him during hospital stays, surgery aftercare, and he has doctors appointments very frequently. So I have experience with physical, mental, and sensory disabilities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
From summer 2019 to Spring 2021, I worked with two little girls. They had gone through several nannies, and the older child had a really hard time letting anyone in because her caregiver was constantly changing. When I started with them, she would even let me touch her. Now, whenever I go back to babysit them or even just hang out when they ask, she throws herself into my arms when I get there. I love teaching because I love helping kids grow and become the best version of themselves - seeing a child heal so much and go from a lonely, guarded five year old to a happy, open seven year old is such an amazing experience.
