Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I started babysitting about nine years ago and have worked for many families with children of all ages including infants. Last year I lived in France as an au pair (a live-in nanny) and cared for two boys ages five and seven for thirty hours a week. I currently volunteer at a crisis nursery where I work mainly with children ages zero to three whose caretakers are in crisis situations and need urgent free childcare.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing art projects with the children I work with, I’m particularly a big fan of origami and I’ve found that the kids I take care of LOVE it as well! I’m a big reader so I love reading to kids, when I was a live-in nanny last year I read the entire Magic Treehouse series to my nanny kids and they loved it!! When it comes to outdoor activities I like taking my kids on adventures around town, making scavenger hunts to encourage them to be engaged with their surroundings, going to playgrounds and parks, and definitely swimming in the summer!!
The most important part about being a nanny...
To me the most important thing about being a nanny is the life long connections I get to create with my kids and their families. Even though I don’t work with them anymore, I am still in touch with many of the families I have worked with in the past and I love getting to watch the kids grow from a distance! My hope is that with every child I work with I can leave some kind of lasting impact on their lives, even if that’s just knowing that they are loved by someone outside of their family.
