More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
25+ years raising kids. I Nannied 2 children full time simultaneously for 6yrs when my 4 children were little. Then “started over” and left a legal assistant position to help raise 3 more kids from my last marriage and ended up with a “surprise” baby myself in 2018. I’ve started over again and have an empty nest other than my 5 year old. I have tons of volunteer work at the kids schools, room mom, Pto, band, in class helper , field trips etc. I used to phone calls if someone needs “kid help” either with an illness, issue or a sitter. Over the summer my 5yr old and I traveled to Virginia to help out my boyfriend’s son and daughter in law with their new baby. They just needed to “bridge the gap” they had in their schedule while on the daycare waiting list. We had a blast! It reminded me how much caring for children has been the light of my life and I would love to keep that light shining.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Playtime, music, blocks, puzzles, reading, crafts, parks, outdoor exploring. If they are having fun and learning too, I consider it all enjoyable!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Children are like little sponges & they absorb everything around them. With all the craziness in the world, my main objective is to help working parents create a life and schedule that helps the a child/children feel secure & cared for, while having a great time learning about their world. Parents have to juggle so many things, so I consider myself to be your “support staff” I am always happy to help support parents in their personal goals and the goals for their children. I will always honor the parents wishes for how they want their child cared for. The happiest moments of my life were when I was managing our household with 8 children and lots of the children's friends. After many many years of experience, I will say this.. They don't come with a manual and EVERY child is unique. There is no “concrete” one size fits all way of parenting, you can have an idea of what you want and how you think things should be handled and do your best! It's all a parent can do.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked with special needs children in middle school and highschool as an elective class helper. Personal experience with more than one child I’ve cared for. Ranging from ADD to other mental health and behavioral issues, This can be challenging, especially when you have multiple children in the household but once you understand what you’re dealing with it doesn’t have to be too overwhelming. Like all kids, kids with special needs just require communication and once you know their “language” I’ve found things run a lot more smoothly.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I certainly have many stories about all the good times I've had with the children who have passed through my life, I honestly don't think I could pick any “one” moment. Moments that bring a smile to my face (& my heart) are usually the simple ones… a big ol’ toothless grin from a baby, or a genuine yell of excitement “YAY” & hands clapping when a child finally accomplishes a goal they've been working hard on. Witnessing sweet moments between siblings, & general acts of kindness when they think no one is watching is another good one. I had to pick just one thing about being with children in general, I suppose it would have to be a good case of the giggles! The sound and sight of a child bursting into laughter aka “belly laughing” is probably my favorite sound in the whole world! I’m talking about the kind of laughter that’s contagious, it is magical if you ask me. It can brighten up even the darkest day in my world & it definitely has on one of “those” days 😊
