Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I nannied two children age 10 and 12 for over a year, one of which had Down’s syndrome. I spent almost every day with them, and some nights/weekends. I also nannied a one year old boy for an entire summer. I have worked at the YMCA daycare and a camp that focused on helping underprivileged children that had emotional disabilities. I am CPR and first aid certified and have much experience with children of many ages because of my nine nieces and nephews.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Puzzling, crafts, days at the park, playing at the pool/beach, music time, and baking.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being present at every moment. You (myself), in an essence, are taking the parent’s role over for a specific time so you have to be as careful as they would be, as thoughtful as they would be, and as present as they would be because their child’s life is in your hands.
My experience with special needs children...
I nannied a little girl that had Down’s syndrome for a year—it was an absolute blessing because she showed me how to have joy no matter what. I also have worked at a camp for children with autism and at a camp for children that have emotional disabilities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I taught one of the little girls that I nannied how to make chocolate chip cookies, and because of her disability, it was difficult but seeing her achieve something so hard for her was so rewarding and joy-filling!
