More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I worked for an old family friend who own an in-home daycare and when she would take vacations. I would take over the daycare. I would drive children to school for morning drop off. During the mornings I would have about 4 to 5 toddlers who I would feed a light breakfast too, then we would play outside for a bit, sometimes go for a walk. After outside time any child 2 or under was put down for a nap with a bottle of milk. During the nap time, the rest of us would play with toys, read books, or colors. I would then give out a snack after nap time and get ready to pick up the older children from 7 to 10 years old from school. When we all got back I would finish making a late lunch for everyone, this was sometimes pasta, chicken and rice, or lentils with bacon and carrots. After everyone is done with lunch, then I helped the older children with homework. After homework, the rest of the time was spend as free time, until picked up and signed out by a parent!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
As a kid who grew up in the 90s, I truly believe in coming up with activities that help challenge the mind but are fun! I also believe that getting fresh air and sun is great for kids, so going for walks or to the park would be a thing we did a lot. I did not grow up with a lot of screens so I limit that time so we again challenge our brains. Reading, coloring, and arts and crafts are also things I do with the kids. Helping the children build their imaginations is why I make sure I include those activities into the day. Having a well rounded day can really increase the emotional thinking of children as their brains develop.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love helping a child feel seen and heard. I feel it is important being able to be a role model for the younger generations, planting the seeds that there are so many opportunities in the world to be whoever you want!
My experience with special needs children...
My oldest friend has a son Greyson who is autistic and when she needs some time, I go over and help her watch him. We play games, like throwing stick balls at a target. He also loves all his sensory toys, especially the ones he can step on and balance. We also go to the pool, where we always wear our water vest! Greyson is 3 years old and I have helped watch him here and there since he was born. Watching him grow and teach all of us a new way to learn has been beyond amazing. He has started preschool and most days he does great and loves it, but other days it is tough and that is where I go and help my friend Alexx with Greyson.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I had a 2 year old kid named Fernando at the daycare who had been attending since an infant. He was the baby of 3 kids and his siblings had also attended the daycare since they were infants. So on a normal day, like any other, again I had taken care of Fernando for about 2 years now from an infant, he was getting picked up by his mom and she had told him to give me a hug and to do the protective cross over me (the father, the son and the holy ghost) so at 2 years old this little kid, does the protective cross over me and then gives me another hug but this time he didn't want to let go, he got out of his mom's arm to hug me and to not let go! So I start walking with mom to the car and he still didn't want to stop hugging me, it was the tightest (smallest armed) hug, I've ever had. I always tear up a bit thinking about it. He trusted and felt that comfortable with me to keep hugging me and not want to go with mom, in a good way, since he loves being at the daycare with me! Best moment!
