A little bit about me

My name is Raelynn Huffaker, I’m 25-years-old and I live in Claremont, CA. I got my B.A. in English/Creative Writing at Azusa Pacific University in 2017. Since then, I have worked as a nanny and substitute teacher while also continuing my education at Azusa Pacific University; I am working on my M.A. in Education and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and am projected to graduate December 2021. I am looking for a nanny job for only during the summer of 2021. In my free-time, I enjoy hiking, camping, playing piano, ukulele, guitar, and writing songs. I also really enjoy writing children’s books and dream of one day publishing some of my own. Long-term, I would love to teach 4th grade, write children’s books and musicals, and be a mother. I am passionate about kids and can’t picture myself working in a field that does not include them in some capacity.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a substitute teacher for 3 years. Previously, I have also been a YMCA summer camp counselor, Sunday school teacher, and I also starting babysitting for family friends when I was 13.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts and crafts, music, instruments, dancing, swimming, hiking, walks to the park, storytelling, drawing with chalk outside, observing the plants outside, teaching meditation/mindfulness, baking, cooking, etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Having fun with the kids I nanny! Of course it is important to maintain the house structure and rules, but I think it is crucial to make those mundane details of everyday life fun for young minds so they stay engaged in their own development. Selfishly, making the children’s days fun also makes my days more fun too! Getting to be a nanny means I get to fill the role of a safe guide for that child to grow and make mistakes along the way. I love my job!

My experience with special needs children...

I have babysat children with autism and cerebral palsy. I have also experienced children with autism, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and anxiety in my classroom.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There was a moment when I was trying to maneuver and change two small babies’ diapers at one time, while I had another 3-year-old running around playing with the dog. Well, the older kid decided to take off his diaper and chase the dog around with his diaper, which was funny until he then peed on the floor and slipped in his pee! It was a disaster for a couple seconds, but I got all three kids changed with no injuries and the dog didn’t even get pee on him!
