Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I worked at the Nicollet Early Childcare Center daycare while I was in high school for a year. While working here I was primarily in the preschool age room. Then I worked at The Children’s house when I went to Mankato for college. I also worked as a paraprofessional in the school readiness program at Nicollet Public school. Then worked at Trinity Christian Day-Care in the infant through preschool age rooms. I was primarily in preschool as a lead teacher. I also worked in a group home setting with older individuals with mental disabilities. Currently, I am a school counselor for Pre-k through 3rd grade.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy playing the games that kids come up with to let their imaginations run wild. I also enjoy reading stories or telling stories and using arts and crafts to keep them busy. I also love going for walks when it’s nice out. Also making up games such as scavenger hunts for flowers or leaves while on walks. Using sidewalk chalk is also a fun activity. I would be willing to go to Sibley park or others in the area as well.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny to me would be making sure the children are being cared for to the best of my ability. Ensuing that they are happy and having fun with me as well as you as the parents being happy with how I am using my time with your children.
My experience with special needs children...
As I stated in my prior experiences, I am currently working in a special education preschool classroom as a para. These children have academic as well as behavioral and physical challenges. I also worked in a group home with older individuals with special needs. I find it very rewarding to work with these children and create special connections with them to make them feel understood and cared for when everyone might not take the time to do so. I have also worked as a personal care assistant with a young boy who had autism and down syndrome.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I do not have a moment as a nanny but something I will never forget from my time as a para is when a student was leaving for the day and turned and ran back to me to give me a hug and said ‘I miss you Miss Riley’. This moment made me just melt, it’s amazing how much of an impact you can have on the little kiddos without realizing it.
