A little bit about me

I have spent the majority of my career writing holistic curriculum for grades K-12 and training teachers the importance of utilizing such curriculum to form a new foundation of education based on sharing our cultures, our differences, and an accurate account of history so that we can all work together as one. My expertise includes arts and craft, songs and games from various Native American tribes and geographic areas. I have also recently completed my Masters degree, researching and writing a training manual for teachers -- complete with information on trauma-informed care, suicide prevention strategies, identity formation for all students, and a view into the future of educational strategies. I am also the mother of 6 grown children, one who is mentally challenged, and 4 grandchildren. I firmly believe our children are our future.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have six grown children that I raised as a single mom; and currently am a part time caretaker for my 2 grandsons, ages 6 and 9. I also have a Master's degree in education and have a lifelong career in mentoring students, doing classroom presentations, training teachers, and writing curriculum.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am an educator as well as an artist. I love doing arts and crafts with children, used to actually teach after school craft classes, and also wrote curriculum on games that teachers can use in the classroom. I also took classes in Environmental Studies as part of my Interdisciplinary Masters, and am an avid believer in holistic education, learning about our environment, and the necessity to interact with Mother Nature. I have a lot of knowledge and expertise to share with children of all ages.

The most important part about being a nanny...

What matters most is knowing that the children in your care have all their needs met to the best of your ability. To know they are fed, clean-clothed, emotionally content, and feeling safe is the priority.

My experience with special needs children...

I have an adult son, age 34, who had an IEP since he was 10 years old. He has had emotional problems and mental health issues based on paternal genetics. I have also written curriculum to train teachers the importance of using "mindfulness," trauma-informed care, and other relevant strategies in dealing with troubled and disruptive students. I am also specialized in intergenerational trauma, dealing with death and dying, and suicide prevention. In addition, I have also been a caretaker for two young adult females who were both mentally challenged, one due to a brain tumor which left her development at age 8, and the other who was mentally retarded. In the school setting, I have also worked with physically handicapped students as well.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most memorable moments are when you play a role in putting a smile on the faces of children who have a hard time understanding hardships or coping with life's circumstances. That joy passes from one to another.
