I am a retired Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 25 years of experience working with children and families in a variety of settings. I have had a private practice specializing in helping children and adolescents with anxiety disorders. I have worked as a school based clinician and with children with a variety of physical and cognitive impairments. I have worked as a pediatric oncology social worker and as a hospice social worker. Most recently since retirement I have worked as a pre school teacher and sub and as a private nanny. I just moved from Maine to Missouri and am looking to continue to work with children and families.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing arts and crafts projects, reading with children, going to the library or local parks and using imaginative and creative play in the home.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is to be present with children in a meaningful way. That requires being patient, being a good listener and engaged with a child or children in a positive and loving manner. Children need to feel safe and secure and that includes structure and boundaries - but the ability to be silly and fun when it is appropriate is also equally important.
My experience with special needs children...
I worked for about 3 years at the Morrison Center in Scarborough, ME as their school social worker. They are a school for children and teens with serious physical and cognitive impairments. I also have experience working with children in the classroom setting who are on the spectrum.
