A little bit about me

I am a 48 year old empty nester. I have 2 grown children I raised as a single mother (boy 25, girl 21 now). I really like kids. I'm an artist, I paint a lot. I graduated from Pepperdine University with early childhood education credits, a Liberal Arts degree with a minor in Fine Arts.

Please note: one determinate factor about me: I was born with a rare "cat" eye condition that makes it confusing for me to judge fast motion and lights-- so to stay safe
I don't drive.

This would mean of course I cannot take any job that requires driving. Also I would need the job to be nearby, either walkable or Uber-affordable. :) I was able to raise my children in San Diego without a car, (we walked a lot!) but I realize that's not so do-able in Los Angeles, especially if you require daily children trips.

I have taken Red Cross First Aid CPR courses.

I am fully vaccinated.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I grew up as the eldest girl with my 4 other siblings so a lot of the responsibility of caring for them fell onto my shoulders. I started changing diapers at 7!

I was the neighborhood babysitter growing up since 13 and had a full time nanny job over the summers in high school.

For 3 years I have also been an elementary, middle school, and high school substitute teacher. When I attended Pepperdine University I was a teacher's assistant in a first grade class in Malibu. I also worked in a homeless shelter in Santa Monica tutoring children.

Finally, I was a full-time single mother to both of my children with full custody since my daughter was a newborn. My son is 25 working in San Francisco, and my daughter is 21 doing research for National Geographic while she attends George Mason University. My son is bipolar ADHD with learning disabilities so that required a lot of patience and dedication from me to keep him on track.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I'm a visual artist so everything art!

I love children's books and read to my son so much as a baby that by the time he was 3 he was reading them entirely on his own.

I like to sing and hum, I may not be the best but little kids love to too. :)

I like silliness and play. I'm always curious and never bored-- there's always something to explore, and kids usually agree! Even chores can turn into fun with a delightful playful attitude.

Keeping children clean, fixing their hair, helping with clothes is something I enjoy as a "mother nurturer."
