The most important part about being a nanny...
I think something that stands out to me as important about my position is providing an emotionally safe environment for children as they grow. I’m very big on kids putting a name to their emotions and talking them out. I do my best to, calmly and in a controlled manner, correct unhealthy ways of expressing anger such as throwing things hen they’re mad or hitting someone, and tell them or ask them what a better way to express that would be and to aim for lots of healthy communication. Bring kind to each other like saying “I’m sorry I was wrong” to their sibling or friend and I would say the same to them if I were wrong. I love and hold myself to the method of treating the child with respect and talking to them like I would anyone else. I’ve seen this impact the children I care for in a good way and heard them use the same communication with each other and it makes me super proud.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I care for three children. My favorite moment with the oldest was when I took them out for dinner and I said how “you guys are good kids” and he looked at me and said “you’re a good babysitter. And that made me really happy and meant a lot to me.
One of the many favorite moments I have with the 6 yr old girl was when she comes to me saying “I love you. I love your cookies. I could eat them forever.” 😂
And one of my favorite moments with the baby is rocking her to sleep and making faces with her and she and I just laughing and she will fall asleep happy and that means so much to me. Or seeing her devour my homemade mashed potatoes or peas. 😂
