I was nannying for two summers in a row, until now because My school hours are the same hours the parents of the child have to go to work.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I'm really allergic to mosquitos so I don't really enjoy going in forest-like areas for walks during the summer, but otherwise I LOVE going outside with children. I really like soccer and basketball for sports, as well as horseback riding which I used to do with my younger siblings back home. For indoor activities, I've always loved teaching, and i'm a musician, so I like to teach kids songs to sing and play on the piano. I also liked baking, and painting with my younger brothers so it's only guaranteed that i'll enjoy them regardless of the children i'm with.. or even if I'm by myself haha.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part about being a nanny and taking care of children in general is knowing that they are impressionable. I studied this in my psychology classes during high school and freshman year college, but it wasn't until really observing the children I was around that I realized that they were mimicking a lot of the small habits that I had picked up being a teenager. This forced me to research, talk to parents, and really sit down with myself and decide how I wanted to behave around children. Also disciplining children as well. I spoke with one of the Mother's I know about discipline because her child laughed at being told no, but he was only 2 so he couldn't comprehend if I sat and tried to lecture him on things like why he cant hit me. But with care, reassurance, patience, and consistency I continued to learn more about how to care for this child, and others.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The moment a child I was watching instantly lit up for the first time when he saw me walk into the house at 8:15 in the morning. It was the cutest thing ever, and he finally had stopped crying when his mom left for work which was already a huge improvement for this little 2 year old. But it was even more adorable when he started to run up and give me hugs and kisses when he saw me, and then hugs and kisses when I had to leave at the end of the day. I could tell he really started to love me.
