I worked with disabled children and our school hosted a special Olympics day. One of my students was scared to participate because he was afraid on not being able to do anything. So I made it a game, I told him he couldn't catch me in this event. He stated "oh yeah? What do I get if I will?" I told him, a ribbon, a hug, and if he can cross that finish line...he would be a winner and everyone will cheer for you! He accepted and ran against me! Not only did he cross that line, but he got a ribbon, a huge hug from all the kids/parents, but he also got a huge trophy/candy bar!
He ran to me and hug me as tight as he could, he said to me "thank you teacher! You are my best friend" and that's why I love working with children! Not the money or the experience it shows, but knowing that I can change and help lives. Every day of my life. And I try to do so every day.
