More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

During my senior year of high school, I volunteered to help kindergarteners with homework and reading. After school and during the summers, I was a BASP and summer program lead. Then, throughout community college, I worked at a daycare and spent my extra time nannying an infant/toddler during evenings, overnights and weekends. I ended this chapter and moved to a larger city (for school) and worked part time at an early learning center. Here, I worked primarily as a supervisor, a 2-year-old lead, and eventually the preschool lead. Here, I taught kids the basics of reading, writing, math, and social/emotional queues and needs before they went to kindergarten. I also babysat for some families as needed. I left the center turn my to focus more towards school, and started nannying full time for two school aged children. I still currently work with them. I have a variety of trainings under my left including CPR and first aid, infant safe sleep, universal precautions, and mandatory reporting.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I’m an art major, so I love any form of art and creativity! Playing outside is also great for children’s mental health. I love anything hands-on, and I’m not afraid to get messy (with proper cleanup of course)! Sensory play for younger kiddos is important and I have lots of experience in that area. For older kids, baking and science experiments has always been a hit. Regardless of what it is, staying busy and structure is key.

My experience with special needs children...

In my experience, each kiddo’s needs is a constant learning journey and I am more than willing to learn your child as they grow! On the flip side, I have limited experience with children with extra physical needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Recently, the oldest of the kids that I nanny disclosed information to me to ask for advice for something at school. This, to me, was huge in terms of what I mean and offer to these kids. Not only did she confide in me as a trusted adult but she also knows that I am always an open ear no matter how unserious or serious her concerns are, without the fear of getting herself into trouble. It also felt cool that she thought I was “hip” enough to come to for advice! :)

Another feel-good moment was when their mom texted me during a week where they didn’t need me as much, stating that the kids missed me and wanted to do something fun to make up for lost time.
