A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Skylar. I am a fun, compassionate, empathetic, educated, and sometimes crazy haired person. With being a care provider for the past 10 years I always have the safety and care of children as my number one priority!

I have been an early childhood educator for the past 10 years. While the switch from classroom to home was a learning curve, and a different way of teaching, I loved it! I am an emergent type of teacher. This means that if we had planned to learn about apples and how they grow that day, but as we read a book we see a worm in an apple. If your child is more interested in the worm, we will change the learning path to be about earthworms!

When you child is in my care, they not only will be having fun, being safe, and getting well taken care of. They will also be learning! I would love to see what I would be able to do for you and your family. I thank you for taking the time to read and I hope to hear from you soon!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

My earliest experience was babysitting at 10 years old. That is also the first time I took a first aid class. When I was old enough I became a teacher in child care centers from 2016- current. Since my start in 2016 I have attended many early childhood development classes. I have attended specialty classes and training for special needs, physical mobility, and water safety. I have completed my 45hrs of state classes needed to work in childcare centers. I also have maintained workshops yearly.

I also have worked for a swim school where I taught children from 4m-12 years how to survive and swim in water. I am able to teach basic survival skills if they were to accidently fall into a body of water. All the way to intermediate skills where they would be proficient in swimming pool widths and on.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy doing many different activities ranging from arts to reading to exploring nature! I also love to teach and learn sign language with them! I'm currently still learning all I can about ASL but I do use a lot of basic signs with children as well in my own life.
Some of my other favorite activities to do with children, of all ages, are music and art! It not only helps keep the boredom at bay, but it helps their body and mind work together. Dance parties are great for helping with big body movements. Which will later help with running, jumping, and balance.
Kids see the world in such amazing ways. While doing art, dancing or playing with kids, you not only get to see how they see the world, you also get a small view into how their brain works from a very young age.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To be honest the best part about being a nanny is being able to give all of my attention to a smaller group of children. Being able to have more 1 on 1 time with each child and get to know them for who they are. Being able to have more of a personal relationship with the family is definitely a huge plus as well! I am able to share more about who I am as a person with the family as a nanny.
While being a teacher is great and has many positives. Nannying allows so much more focus, connection, and progress. With a smaller working group I am able to move at the pace of the student. If your two year old is reading already, we will progress that, not have to wait for the rest of the class.

My experience with special needs children...

For five years, I served as a primary caretaker for my brother with Asperger's, giving me invaluable experience in providing individualized support and understanding specific triggers. This experience, coupled with my work in childcare centers serving children from diverse backgrounds and with varying mental and physical capacities, has honed my ability to create a nurturing and responsive environment.
My commitment to understanding children's needs extends beyond my practical experience. I have also attended medical classes to expand knowledge on some medical equipment. I believe open communication is essential, and I value the opportunity to observe children in their home environment to best understand their individual needs. I am also committed to expanding my communication skills and am currently learning American Sign Language, which I incorporate into my childcare practices to benefit all children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My first nanny experience I was a live in nanny for a family who had twins. I would work M-F with the kids and had weekends with the family off for free time. One Saturday the mom had asked me last minute to watch the kids. I had plans to go to the beach for the day and mom agreed to let me take the girls with me.

The beach is full of so many great learning experience for children of all ages. The smell and feel of the cold water. The heat and softness of the sand under them. The sounds and sights of the different things around them!

We counted and added sea shells, we did races with the waves, they wrote their names in the sand... Or in other words, we worked on math, big body movement, and worked on literacy skills. All while having fun at the beach!!
