My experience with special needs children was when I became a peer mentor at my high school, Glenbrook South. I did that for two years, where I worked closely with a girl who had cerebral palsy and faced challenges with communication. Through that experience, I learned how to build trust, use nonverbal cues, and support her needs with patience, consistency, and empathy. It helped me grow in my ability to connect with children who express themselves differently and showed me how important it is to create a space where every child feels seen and supported.
