Kids, more than anything, want to be heard and treated like humans. They always know if people are paying attention and listening to them, so I am always present when I am with kids, and I always listen. This, of course, doesn't mean that the kids get whatever they want. However, it does mean that I try to always hear them out and explain why they can or can’t have or do something.
