A little bit about me

My name is Summer. I am a student at Western Colorado University. I am 22 years old and have worked with and around children for about ten years! Back home I have been a babysitter for a family for almost 4 years now. My sophomore year of highschool I was a unpaid assistant for a preschool in my home town. In both of the classes I worked in there were 16 children all under the age of 4. In the younger class I worked very closely with a student with down syndrome and loved every single second of it even when it could be overwhelming!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked with children for ten years including one year of being a full-time, unpaid, teaching assistant. I have a lot of experience with kids with down syndrome as my cousin is. I have 4 siblings. I am not officially certified with CPR but I have been in the past and keep up to date with the methods. I am an undergraduate majoring in biology with an emphasis physical therapy and a minor in chemistry so I would consider my self very diligent and organized.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing musical activities as well as reading with children. I also love being active and inspiring children's use of their imagination! Crafting is also so fun as well as any activities that include learning at any level!

My experience with special needs children...

My cousin has down syndrome and I can very confidently saw he is the best thing that ever happened to our family. Even though things can take slightly longer with him, the live and passion he puts into anything he does is truly beautiful! After high school I was a sub for the elementary school in my home town therefore have some experience with some of the special needs kids within those class rooms. My main goal with spending anytime with any child is to exude patience, appreciation, and care!

The most important part about being a nanny...

The little girl I frequently babysit at home took a little bit to warm up to me, as she was a shy 2 year old when I first started watching her. But after about 4 months of watching her I was at the store and I heard my name and saw her running toward me. She gave me a big hug and asked me how I was. We chatted for a little bit and then she asked me to lean down so she could tell me something before we had to leave and she whispered that she loved me! That was such a wholesome and beautiful moment I will always cherish!
