My experience with special needs children...
I cared for a child with autism in college and they made a mark on me. They had a tendency to hit their head on various objects when overstimulated or overwhelmed. They found solace in my presence. I would hold their head and they would slowly relax into my hands. The day I said goodbye was so incredibly hard.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When they pick up on my tendencies…for example a past nanny child of mine would tap their chin with their finger and say “hmm”, I didn’t realize for a couple days that I do that when I’m thinking! Super funny when I noticed!
