Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I am a grandmother of two children who parents served in the military. I was the primary caretaker for 3 months a year (24-7) while parents were serving. I stayed in Japan, Germany, Arizona and South Dakota. I provided stability and above-standard care for my grandchildren and other military families who needed assistance while parents were gone.
When I am back in New England, I have often volunteered for children events.

My favorite activity is to visit the local playground. The fresh air and exercise on the equipment can not be beat.
Another activity depending on the age of a child is to visit local stores and explore the holiday decorations. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations are very colorful, have loads of textures.
New England is fortunate to have many trails. In the cold weather, it is fun to walk on the trails and then return to the vehicle for a warm drink and snack.
Lincoln Massachusetts has many offbeat things to see such as Ponyhenge. Then across the road from Ponyhenge, you can check on the llamas, herd of sheep or pigs.
My all-time favorite activity is on the first very warm April spring day is to visit the child's favorite ice cream place. The look of joy of your first ice cream cone of the season after a long winter is a simple blissful joy.

when a small boy whom I had taken care in Japan came to see me in New England. He said that no one made warm water taste so good as I did. (He had food allergies and his parents were finding it challenging). I had painted funny pictures in the container that you could see when it was empty.
