Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I volunteered for the Free Arts program at the Edelman's Children's Courthouse from [phone number hidden] (when Covid hit). The program gave the children who had to be there an opportunity to take their minds off things and engage creatively, independently or through guided crafts.
For this program I was background checked and trained as a mandated reporter.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Enriching young minds and cultivating the qualities that will make them happy, healthy and good adults.
My experience with special needs children...
I have extensive experience with children of specialized needs including: autism spectrum disorder, neurodivergence, sensory-based motor disorder, oppositional defiant disorder.
I primarily worked with children on the high functioning end but also have experience working with non-verbal and highly impaired.
I have worked very closely with members of IEP teams including: teachers, tutors, doctors and therapists (speech, behavioral, cognitive, visual, occupational). I have sat in on and participated in sessions, provided and relayed progress and instructions, practiced, reinforced and worked independently with the child in-between appointments. As a primary caregiver, I was highly involved in all aspects of specialized care to help the child reach milestones and goals and act as liaison between provider and parent so we were all well-informed and on the same page.

The most important part about being a nanny...
1. After introducing my nanny kid (4yo boy) to Harry Potter he became mildly obsessed and often donned the signature cloak, glasses and wand. It created a special bond between us and he started calling me Her-little-miney. For a few months it truly felt like magic because he listened very well, as long as it was 'cast as a spell' with my wand.
2. I helped the two boys (5 & 8) put on a big production for their parents. They worked so hard coming up with acts to perform and practicing them with props, music and costume changes. I helped them make tickets and a program. We set up chairs and popped popcorn and they ushered their parents to their seats with the biggest smiles that never left their faces where they showed off all the hard work they put in with so much pride.
3. I went camping with the family and helped the boys (8 & 11) make their first campfire and roast marshmallows for the very first time. It was beautiful because they were so in awe and appreciative of the moment.
