A little bit about me

Hello! I’m Sydney, born and raised in Skowhegan and I am 24. I have babysat for over a decade for many different families of all different dynamics, and needs! I have my Bachelors degree from UMaine - Orono in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a Spanish minor, and have worked as a Speech Therapy Assistant in the school system so I have professional experience outside of nannying/babysitting working with and enriching the lives of children of all different backgrounds and abilities. This included helping children with special needs, different disabilities, learning differences, and differing emotional needs of all kinds. I truly love working with kids, I love the joy and wonder they bring to the world with their imagination and creativity. I am looking to Nanny at this point in time as I am living at home with my mother and going through a life shift as a result of a family loss where I would like to work with children on a Nannying level as opposed to in the school systems!

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Working as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant in the local school systems (including 4 different schools where grades ranged from pre-k to 8th grade). Working as an Administrative Assistant for a non-profit organization which provided childcare and specialized schooling (infants-4th grade).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing arts and crafts activities and have many I have done in the past with children that they have loved! I enjoy getting children outside to get fresh air and safely get vitamin D (with sunscreen, and proper protection from the sun of course), that is so good for them. I find it important to get their energy out by being active outside! Whether we are playing with chalk and making a hopscotch course to go through or playing tag or jumping rope, even playing four square or pass, the options are endless! There are so many fun ways to get outside and unplug. As a part of my studies for my Communication Sciences and Disorders degree, I learned the effects of excess screen time and screen addiction in children. Because of this, I find it important to develop many options of activities, games, crafts, and play for each individual child that they can enjoy while enriching their imagination and development instead of becoming overly addicted to screen time! This is a passion of mine.
