The most important part about being a nanny...
To me, the most important part is being able to witness the growth of the child you're caring for, both physically and mentally. Watching a baby grow into a little person is so rewarding!
My experience with special needs children...
At the childcare I worked at, there were a total of 4 children with special/additional needs. Two children, twins, were born prematurely and as a result had some developmental delays. Part of my job was supporting the parents in making sure they were on track to catch up to the other children their age. Another child I cared for had diagnosed ADHD and part of my job was accommodating him, especially during learning times. The fourth child was believed to be on the autism spectrum, being mostly nonverbal and displaying atypical behavior for a child his age. My coworker and I worked together to ensure he was engaged and his needs were met despite the fact that he was unable to vocalize them clearly.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moment during childcare was during naptime, I turned around after changing one of the babies and saw one of the older girls wearing a clean diaper on her head like a hat.
