More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I'm the mother to an 8-year-old who I have homeschooled from the beginning of daycare/school age. I've also had 4 other homeschool students join our little crew. 3 stayed with us until they became 5th graders and transitioned so I could primarily focus on 2nd and 3rd grades (4th grade with exceptions) and 1 decided to try public school this year. I've additionally worked at a group home for young ladies from Native Tribes across the U.S. who struggled with substance use, behavioral issues, and honestly just needed some love, attention, and structure. Lastly, many years ago, I worked with youth in boys and girls club - the after-school program for parents who worked later than the end of the normal school day.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Greatest gift of being a mom or homeschooling children: watching them learn a new skill and seeing them be proud of themselves. Nature! Walks with journals looking at leaves, rocks, insects. sketch them or write observations. Science and how things work is what I love teaching kids to do. I enjoy classic hands-on science or STEM projects like baking soda volcanos or slime. Daily read-alouds and kids telling or writing their own choose your adventure stories helping with fluency and vocabulary. Also, teaching math that doesn't feel like math. Games around math seem to create more "I got it moments" than a workbook. Creating art, making music, and helping kids find a creative outlet. I also enjoy teaching kids to plan and cook a meal with their family, going on field trips to museums, parks, or even the grocery store. Another activity is helping kids find a daily rhythm that helps them learn and simply "do life." Mostly I enjoy getting to explore with them instead of just teaching them
The most important part about being a nanny...
Giving kids a place where they can explore, discover, and just be kids in a safe learning and encouraging environment that also teaches them to be good humans.
My experience with special needs children...
Depending on the special need. If a student had an IEP plan in public school for ADHD or some other behavioral diagnosis, we can discuss.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Some of my favorite homeschool/nanny moments is hearing what these kids create in their minds whether it be a joke or a connection they made from their lessons.
