Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
In high school I was in a club that helped with the special needs kids at my school. After high school, I volunteered with a low-income housing after-school program in an apartment community in my city. Then, I started tutoring, nannying, and teaching. Something I forgot to mention in my bio was that I volunteered as a 3's and 4's teacher at my church. :)
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Crafts, science experiments, art, puzzles, cooking, playdough, slime, playing with marble runs, Lego, blocks, train sets... I love things that move! My hubby and I have built a few wooden marble runs together. I also love doing things that better the mind, like sudoku, logic puzzles, and things like that. I like being creative and free, but I also like more concrete things. I helped a child I nannied with her gymnastics skills at home. We did Zumba and danced lots. Sometimes I'd play on the Switch with her.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Caring about the child as an individual. I always try to learn about my kids and not push anything I know they probably wouldn't enjoy, but I always try to expand their world and introduce new activities I know are fun for most kids, introduce new foods, etc. It's important to understand different personalities and be observant enough to foster annd encourage natural gifts and talents within a child. It's also so important to be kind but firm. It's easy when we're having fun to let things slide, but kids still need structure and to stay on top of their responsibilities.
My experience with special needs children...
I volunteered and worked with children who had autism, Down's syndrome, cerebral palsy, William's syndrome who were verbal and nonverbal
The most important part about being a nanny...
Too many! There were so many conversations that I've had with my kids who said some very adorable things. There were endless laughs playing games with my kids and just being silly. I can be VERY silly and I have always been able to make my kids laugh. We would dance in the kitchen while making lunch xD one of those simple things that always stick as a great memory. Also, most of the kids I nannied were girls and I always loved dressing them up and doing their hair for the day.
