I was working with a 3 year old with delayed language acquisition. She was only able to say “mom” and “dad” and”waa” for water. One afternoon I was pushing her on the tire swing. I was teasing her and we were laughing. As she came swinging toward me she said, “Hi Tessa!” so clearly. She had never said my name before. She had certainly never put two words together. She did not even say her sister’s name. It felt like a miracle and she began gaining more words after that.
