My experience with special needs children...
My youngest cousin has autism. He's 3 now but was 5 months when I started to babysit and when I babysit him we have little conversations and our own little greeting. He's very picky when it comes to the feel of certain items or the taste/feel of certain foods as well. He doesn't talk but he makes sounds and points to let you know what's bothering or if he wants something.

One time I was fixing my aunts bed and while I was lifting the blanket the baby ran and hugged me while giggling and laughing then I just repeatedly lifted the blanket and pulled it down making funny faces
