The most important part about being a nanny...
For me, it's understanding the role that I play in the life of my charge. I always have their best interest in mind, and I understand that sometimes my time is limited and I am determined to leave a lasting, positive impression.
Most children remember me for as "the fast nanny, or the "the nanny that can sing and do ballerina turns", "the nanny that braided my hair like Elsa (in "Frozen"), for parents, "the nanny that got my anti-nap child to nap on the first try", and most memorably "the nanny that said I have to brush teeth before night sleep".
In my years as a professional nanny I've come to understand that trust, discretion, patience, and utilizing critical thinking are important characteristics of a dependable nanny.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I was a fill- in for a family with a sweet two-year old boy. We spent a week together as his regular nanny was on vacation. True to form, I spent the week with the toddler, making every moment a teaching moment and showing him how to be neat and tidy ( yes, toddlers will pay attention and follow the leader.
On the third night of the week, the mother sent me a text message, two paragraphs long, thanking me for (1) getting the toddler to nap the full 2 hours that was scheduled, (2) keeping the home tidy and doing some minor staging and organizing as they the family had just moved into a new home ( and I love organizing spaces, and (3) creating a bedtime brush routine. She said "I was putting him to bed and he tells me 'Toni says I brush teeth before night sleep'".
That was one of my most memorable moments.
